In addition to the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, we make a fourth vow, the consecration to the Virgin Mary as slaves of love.
We do this consecration as a “maternal slavery of love” according to the method of Saint Louis-Marie Grignon de Montfort, in his Treatise of the True Devotion to Mary. Our good actions have a double value: a satisfactory value (they cancel our sins) and a meritorious value (they give us more glory in Heaven). Therefore, by this slavery of love we offer to Christ; through Mary; not only our bodies, souls and goods, but also our good actions (past, present and future) with all their meritorious and satisfactory value. The Virgin will dispose of all our merits according to Her will and only for Her intentions. It is a supreme act of submission to Christ through Mary, completing our total offering.
The consequence of this consecration is the “Marianization” of life. We will do everything:
- Through Mary: She indicates the way, She teaches and tells us – as the servants of Cana – do whatever He (Christ) tells you (Jn 2, 5). We go to Christ through Mary.
- With Mary: She is our model of virtue, who should guide all our intentions, actions and operations.
- In Mary: The Incarnate Word spent nine months in the womb of the Virgin, so the consecrated soul should be deeply united to the Virgin Mary in all her acts.
- For Mary: She must be the end that guides our actions and the object attracting the heart of every consecrated person.
Every faithful “slave of Jesus in Mary” must pray to Her, think of Her, talk about Her, glorify Her… he must live always through Jesus and Mary, with Jesus and Mary, in Jesus and Mary, for Jesus and Mary.
